Russian experts share insights into the possible scenarios for relations in international arena following the election of the Socialist F. Hollande as the French President.
They warn against potential strain in communication between Paris and Moscow. One of Hollande's criticisms against Sarkozy was that the latter was too meek, when dealing with the Russian Prime Minister, now President. The experts believe that Holland will now have to live up to his own claims and at least to show more rigour in Russian relations. However, it is unlikely that he would openly or for a long time confront the Kremlin: ever since Mitterand's presidency Russia and France have been on rather amicable terms.
The perspectives of the EU are more concerning, as Hollande has amply indicated his unapproval of the approach chosen and propagated by Germany's Angela Merkel. In the situation when confrontation over the eurozone crisis is looming, Russia will be in a difficult position, having to manoeuvre between the two opposing leaders.
