On Monday, May 28, Russian opposition applied to hold a 50,000-strong "March of Millions" in Moscow on June 12, to protest against current authorities.
“We have submitted a notice about holding March of Millions rally on June 12 in the form of a march and meeting,” the Left Front protest movement' leader, Sergei Udaltsov, said.
According to the application, the march will start at the Belorussky railway station and run along Tverskaya Street to Borovitskaya Square, not far from the Kremlin. The start time is scheduled on 2 p.m. Moscow time, June 12.
The opposition is going to unveil its program manifesto at the rally. There also will be traditional slogans against the results of parliamentary and presidential elections, as well as calls for the country's leaders to retire.
The previous opposition's rally, on May 6, ended in violence and clashes with police, when the protesters tried to move closer to the Kremlin, which had not been agreed with the city authorities. Sergei Udaltsov was put under administrative arrest on May 9 for 15 days for failing to obey police orders.
June 12 is a national holiday in the country - the Day of Russia. No wonder that this day attracts many different political forces to express their views. Another opposition activist, journalist Sergei Parkhomenko, also applied to hold a rally near The Sakharov Museum at midday on June 12. Similar actions will be held that day in St. Petersburg and other Russian cities.
