Russian singer Eduard Khil, who became an Internet sensation two years ago, has been taken to the hospital in a critical condition after a stroke.
The 77-year-old stage star is currently is in intensive care of the St. Petersburg Polenov Scientific Research Institute of Neurosurgery. Earlier he spent six weeks in the resuscitation department of the Mariinsky hospital and was moved to the Polenov's Institute only after press boom.
According to the hospital's press service, he has suffered irreversible brain damage and loss of several important life functions. Medics are now fighting for his life, though there are no any guarantees of recovery.
Khil’s family are searching for extra funds for his treatment and hope that Russia’s new Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova will help.
Eduard Khil was born in Smolensk in 1934. The handsome and charismatic young baritone rose to fame in the 1960s. Khil was one of the most popular singers in the Soviet Union, he also participated in numerous international musical festivals in European cities and the US, which was a rarity for Soviet musicians.
New wave of fame came to Eduard Khil in 2010, when his I Am So Happy to Finally Be Back Home wordless song scooped over 2 million views on YouTube over just a few days and so brought Khil international attention. Foreign fans of the song nicknamed Eduard Khil Trololo Man, begging him to give live shows in their countries. Eduard Khil turned back to the stage, gave several concerts and recorded new songs for movies and cartoons. He was also awarded with some musical nominations.
However, in his home Eduard Khil is better known for his Soviet hits, such as Where the Fatherland Begins, At a Nameless Height, Winter and many more.
