Shchusev State Museum of Architecture Opens a Permanent Exposition

Shchusev State Museum of Architecture opens the permanent exhibition Non-Happened Future on June 19.

The central place in it will belong to the model of the Big Kremlin Palace designed by architect Vasily Bazhenov and never constructed; the implementation of this project was connected with the plans of Yekaterina II to construct in the Kremlin a huge palace, which would drastically change the image of the entire Kremlin architectural complex and Red Square. Its foundation was laid in 1773; however, the construction works were stopped two years later. The model made of wood is of impressive size it is more than 17 meters long, 10 meters wide and higher than a man.

However, in the museum one will see only the most interesting fragments of this project, which has long been kept in the museum storeroom and has been gradually being restored it cannot be displayed fully due to absence of a premise large enough.
