On Monday morning, June 4, Russian People's Artist Eduard Khil has died in a St. Petersburg hospital at the age of 77.
It became known in March 2012, that Khil had a stroke and was hospitalized in the Mariinsky hospital. Later he was moved to the intensive care of the Polenov's Scientific Research Institute of Neurosurgery. The artist was in a deep coma all the time, his condition was estimated by medics as grave.
Eduard Khil died on Monday morning, June 4, after irreversible brain damage from a stroke and the loss of several important life functions.
Eduard Khil was born in Smolensk on September 4, 1934. The handsome and charismatic young baritone started his professional career in the 1960s and soon became one of the most popular singers in the Soviet Union. He performed the majority of the Soviet musical hits, took part in the foreign concerts and received the most valuable awards and medals for his contribution to culture,
New wave of fame came to Eduard Khil in 2010, when his I Am So Happy to Finally Be Back Home vocalise song scooped over 2 million views on YouTube over just a few days and so brought Khil international attention. After became famous in the West and received the "Mr. Trololo" nickname from his foreign fans, Eduard Khil resumed his professional career, gave several concerts and recorded new songs for movies and cartoons.
However, in Russia Eduard Khil was always better known for his old Soviet hits such as Where the Fatherland Begins, At a Nameless Height, Winter and many more. So today people of different ages, from different countries, mourn over Eduard Khil's decease.
The day of commemoration and the place of burial will be announced later.
