On Friday, June 1, Russia recorded a 3-0 friendly win over Italy in their last game before starting Euro 2012 in a week’s time. It is the Russia's first-ever win over the strong Italian team.
All the goals were scored in the second time. The first one came on 58 minutes when Roman Shirokov declined a chance to shoot and flicked the ball to Alan Dzagoev, who fed Alexander Kerzhakov to beat substitute goalkeeper Morgan de Sanctis with a powerful bouncing shot.
The others two goals were made by Roman Shirokov: on the 75th minute with a help of Andrei Arshavin, and on the 89th minute, from the pass of Alexander Kokorin.
Hereby, Russia goes into the tournament unbeaten in their last 14 games, while Italy already has three defeats, including 1-0 losses to the United States in February and 1-0 to Uruguay in November.
On Sunday, June 3, Russian football team went to Warsaw, their base for the June 8-July 1 tournament. The team will start their participation in Euro 2012 on Friday, June 8, against the Czech Republic, before further group stage games against co-hosts Poland and Greece.
