From June 15 till August 26, 2012 the Kremlin Exhibition Hall of the Assumption Belfry will be holding a unique exhibition dedicated to the iconostasis of St. Cyril of Beloozersk Monastery of the 15th century.
For the first time in many years the exhibition in the Kremlin brings together icons kept in different museums. Visitors will see St. Cyril of Beloozersk iconostasis in all its authentic beauty.
The history of life and discovery of the iconostasis is as unique as its painting. In the 18th century the ancient iconostasis was disassembled and replaced with a design made according to the tastes of new epoch. Some of the icons were removed to the altar or transferred to other monastery churches. Only in 1918 art historians and restorers recalled the outstanding monument and set about studying it.
