On Thursday, Maria Sharapova reached her first French Open after a straight-sets win over world No.4 Petra Kvitova from Czech Republic 6-3, 6-3.
Sharapova will join Italian 21st seed Sara Errani in Saturday’s final. Previously Errani defeated Samantha Stosur from Australia in the semifinal and reached the finals for the first time in her career.
It will be Sharapova's second Grand Slam final in a row after defeat at the Australian Open in January.
The win over Kvitova has made Sharapova ¹1 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) world ratings. The updated list will be published on June 11.
A win would make Sharapova only the 10th player in women’s tennis history to achieve the career Grand Slam of wins at all four major tournaments.
