A monument to varenik (curd dumpling) has been unveiled at the Taganrogskaya Embankment of the Azov resort town of Yeysk.
The author of the unusual two-meter sculpture is Krasnodar artist Inna Sapozhnikova.
The author has “spread” on a small pedestal a table cloth with a huge varenik, a spoon and a pan. Golden letters carved on the sculpture in Russian and Ukrainian languages send a joking message: “Let everyone live as a varenik in butter”. This tasty traditional dish came to Kuban from Ukraine – hence is the inscription in two languages.
Yeysk dwellers were pleased with the monument: right after the unveiling of the enormous varenik a line of people willing to take a picture next to it occurred.
By the way, in the middle of July, in the heat of the resort season on the Azov coast, Russia’s first Vareniki Festival is planned to be held in Yeysk.
