The police guard was enforced at the Tagansky Court in Moscow where the judges are expected to prolong the detention of Pussy Riot musicians.
Three members of an all-female Russian punk-band have been detained in the aftermath of a so-called "punk mass", "served" at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. Although the band members initially escaped the arrest, three of them were later put into custody by the police.
During the court hearing today it is expected that the band's supporters will be protesting outside. There have already been reports about the police arresting some of them.
While the band members may remain in custody, their supporters in Russia and elsewhere campaign for their freedom. Earlier Pussy Riot members were announced "the prisoners of conscience" by Amnesty International.
