1.3 Thousand History Monuments Decay in Petersburg

It is possible to restore about 90-95 per cent of the historical buildings that are under the threat of destruction in St. Petersburg, architects point out.

Research showed that more than 1.3 thousand St. Petersburg monuments of history and culture, nominally protected by the state, are in the active phase of destruction. At the same time experts have noted 31 sites that are in the most risky condition. In some cases they are already sentenced to demolition or reconstruction. In particular, the city may lose the house of merchant A.Ya. Shangin on Fontanka Embankment, the biggest part of the quarter Narva Outpost constructed in the 1920s-1950s, the main works building of the Brusnitsyns'Skinnery, Harbour Station, and others.
