The second of incarcerated Pussy Riot members has gone on a hunger strike in protest against the restriction of the time she was left to read 7 volumes of court proceedings.
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova made this decision when Moscow's Tagansky Court where the case is being heard upheld the demand of prosecutors to limit the time for getting acquainted with court proceedings by July 9th. Previously, Yelena Samutsevich went on a hunger strike for the same reason. Tolokonnikova's defense attorney then stated that such decision would indicate a purely political persecution. Unfortunately, for many people this is now the case.
Many Russian celebrities and public persons spoke up on the subject. While they denounce the act of "punk-mass" as a true blasphemy for the faithful, they do not believe that the trial does require this kind of seriousness. The potential sentence (up to 7 years in prison) also seems too harsh for what should be punished either in the form of a fine, or as a certain amount of public works.
