Museum of Underwater Archeology to Open in Veliky Novgorod

Visit the city of Veliky Novgorod in September 2012 and you will manage to become one of the first visitors of the Museum of Underwater Archeology. It has been in construction since 2010.

The new exposition is expected to be the first constantly serving collection of unique finds made by submarine archaeologists during searchings at the bottom of the river Volkhov. The exhibition will be placed in one of the Novgorod State Culture Preserve's buildings - Karaulny House of communication lines.

According to archival sources, in XI-XVII centuries the Novgorod Kremlin and Yaroslav town church were linked by the Great Bridge - the oldest hydrological installation of the Ancient Rus (Russia). Excavations at the bottom of the Volkhov river aimed at the search of ancient bridge pillars have been held since 2005. During the works archaeologists found several thousands church plates, furniture and fittings, decorations, coins and other ancient things that will also be included to the new exposition.
