West European Paintings from Ukrainian Museums Exhibited in Moscow

From Byzantian icons to masterpieces by Flemish painting: the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts has opened the exhibition Return of St. Luke.

The exposition titled after the well-known canvass Return of St. Luke by the Dutch portraitist Frans Hals presents 100 works from 9 museums of Ukraine. In the Soviet years the canvass already visited Moscow and then was stolen from the museum it was displayed in.

The history of its search even underlay a detective action movie. However, according to organizers, there are other interesting things to look at in the collection. Experts estimate the Ukrainian collection as a unique one, presenting a range of schools and trends of painting.

The exhibition Return of St. Luke runs till September 9.
