Massive forest fires in the Tomsk region have reached its capital - on July 24 a couple of districts in the Tomsk suburbs caught fire. According to the representative of the city mayor's office, the fire is currently contained and there is no danger of flame spreading.
Some city's districts were covered by smog due to fires, though it is already a common situation for citizens, as there have been no rains for three weeks. Several days earlier the local church with a support of Russia's Emergency Service held a public prayer for rain, but the forest fires area has become even larger since then - from 4500 to 7846 hectares.
According to the regional Emergency Service's direction, about 36 forest fires were acting as of morning July 24. 14 fires were contained the recent twenty-four hours.
Temperature in the Tomsk region is now about 30-35 Celsius degrees and it is not expected to change soon.
