The place in the Saratov Region, where the first spaceman Yury Gagarin landed after the historical flight on April 12, 1961 has been recognized a cultural heritage site of federal value. The first cosmonaut on the Earth Yury Gagarin landed in the field of the collective farm Lenin’s Way of the Engelsk District of the Saratov Region on April 12, 1961.

      The architectural complex Gagarin’s Field with Gagarin's monument in the centre was founded on the place of his landing 27 kilometers to the South of Engels town. The obelisk with Yury Gagarin monument stands on a hillock two hundred meters away from the landing point. The Russian Ministry of Culture will soon include the memorial complex in the uniform state register of cultural heritage sites (monuments of history and culture) of the people of the Russian Federation.

      The initiative about giving the federal status to the memorable place in the Saratov Region was started by the regional government.
