A troop train carrying armaments for utilization caught fire in the Novosibirsk region, 10 wagons were destroyed, Russian Defense Ministry reported.
The fire started at 8 am Moscow time, near the Tikhomirovka village, about 100 kilometers from Novosibirsk, when one of the wagons with armaments suddenly caught fire. The train was stopped in an unpopulated place, operators and soldiers went to the safe distance.
About 10 wagons were destroyed by fire, some of the ammunition caused huge explosions. Luckily, it did not cause injuries or deaths. More than 23 trains were stopped because of disruption in railroad service, including 9 passenger trains.
According to preliminary investigation, the incident on the train near Novosibirsk was caused by a malfunction of its braking system. This led to a clasp blocks' overheating and, as a result, a fire in one of the train wagons.
A Defense Ministry spokesman said rescuers evacuated residents of the nearby Tikhomirovka village as fragments of the train and its windows might have landed 500 meters away from the incident site.
It is not the first incident involving fires in arsenals in Russia this year. In May and June 2012 there were series of arsenal explosions in the different military bases, with human toll and many people injured.
