Several hotels localed within the easy reach from regional railroads are being built and developed by Andrei Yakunin, the son of the Head of the Russian Railways.
As per agreement with the Rezidor Group, Andrei Yakunin's Regional Hospitality Chain plans to build several hotels in various Russian cities and towns under the Park Inn by Radisson brand. Yakunin plans to invest $500mln and has chosen for his property consultant a daughter company of the Russian Railways headed by his father, 64-year-old Vladimir Yakunin. The acquired building sites are predominantly located near the railroad terminals in Russian regions. Currently, Park Inn by Radisson hotels function in Kazan, Izhevsk, and Astrakhan; several more are being built in Sochi, Yaroslavl, Volgograd, and Novosibirsk.
The experts worry that such close relationship between father and son falls short of nepotism and may serve to embellish the "family". Andrei Yakunin denies the claims, stating that he actually hires the Russian Railways companies to provide services for him.
Vladimir Yakunin declined to comment.
