A large-scale reconstruction of the Astrakhan Kremlin has presented archeologists with an amazing find.
Under a layer of soil they found fragments of a house and household items of the 17th century: millstones, an amphora, and stove accessories. The interior has remained intact almost to details. However, the walls of the house are coated with soot – the construction was most likely ruined by fire. And yet, being covered with soil, it has been preserved for history.
Now archeologists insist on covering the 17th century house with a glass roof and making it a demonstration archeological pit for tourists. Rare finds strike even seasoned archeologists. According to them, these may be preconditions for discovering new landmarks in the history of Astrakhan city.
A real treasure for numismatists – coins of the epochs of Romanovs’ reign and the Gold Horde of the 14th century – has been unearthed there. Among them is a stamping coin of 1321.
