A unique one-day excursion was opened in Tazovskaya tundra, Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, for tourists to visit reindeer breeders site. A three thousand head of reindeers' cattle is pastured near the site daily.
The nomad camp is located 50 kilometers from the local centre (Tazovsky village). It consists of eight tents. At the beginning of the trip the guests will be carried in a traditional reindeers relay, then a special cultural and entertainment program is prepared for them. Tourists will be able to try their hands at traditional competitions of native northerners - "tynzyan" (lasso) throwing to "khorei" (a stick imitating reindeer antler). They also will be allowed to take part in an ancient ritual of purification and sacrifice to Nenets gods.
Tazovsky region is located within the Polar circle, in the northeast of the Russia's Yamal-Nenets Autonomus Area. Its opening and development started in the XVI century after the Ermak's legendary campaign. "Visit Reindeer Breeders" is an unusual and popular tourism route. Such routes are already receiving tourists in Arkhangelsk region and Evenki Autonomous Area - northern territories of Russia.
