Russian archeologists have reported about the unique find made by scientists of East Bosporus Archaeological Expedition of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Krasnodar Territory.
In the course of excavations of a necropolis of the Greek city colony of Germonassa they found a burial of a woman who lived in the 4th century BC. Among the funeral stock discovered in the sepulcher there was a black lacquered saltcellar with the name of Midas - the legendary hero of Ancient Greek myths.
The unique find could have been lost, because the coastline is collapsing in Taman and lots of archeological monuments could have been ruined, but this summer about 500 volunteers have joined the archeologists.
During excavation works hundreds of medieval and antique burials, which could have been irrevocably lost are presently being studied. Moreover, earlier unknown fortified settlement of the 6th century BC has been found. Archeologists have spotted its defensive ditch right under the burial layer.
