Russia has won the Olympic synchronized swimming event in London to capture its fouth consecutive sweep of gold. The Russian team, headed by two-time Olympic champions Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina, scored 98.930 out of 100 for their performance.
Also on Friday, Russia’s Tatyana Lysenko added Olympic hammer gold to her world title Friday, nailing the Olympic record with a huge throw. Lysenko threw the hammer 78 meters 28 centimeters, breaking Aksana Miankova’s record from the Beijing Olympics by almost two meters.
Poland’s former world champion Anita Wlodarczyk took the second place with a 77.60 meter throw on her last attempt.China finished second with 97.010 points, narrowly beating Spain, who were awarded 96.920 points and the bronze medal.
Russian wrestlers continue gathering all possible medals. Russia’s Dzhamal Otarsultanov has won Olympic wrestling gold in men's 55-kilogram freestyle, beating Vladimir Khinchegashvili of Georgia 2-0.
Another Russian wrestler, Denis Tsargush was defeated by eventual winner, American Jordan Ernest Burrough but then clinched the bronze medal beating Canadian Mathew Gentry, 2-0.
Russia’s Andrey Zamkovoy won bronze in the men’s welterweight boxing on Friday, together with Ukrainian world No. 1 Taras Shelestyuk, after they were defeated in the semifinals. The gold and silver winners will be announced on Saturday.
Russia's Misha Aloyan has taken the Olympic bronze medal in flyweight boxing after a sudden defeat to Mongolia's Tugstsogt Nyambayar. The world and European champion and No. 1 seed was out-fought 15 points to 11 by Nyambayar, a former world silver medalist.
Also on August 11, Russia's David Aryapetyan and Ireland's Paddy Barnes won Olympic bronze medals in men's light flyweight boxing. Aryapetyan, a 2009 world silver medalist, lost his semifinal against 2009 Asian champion Kaeo Pongprayoon of Thailand 13-12.
