A monument titled Bread of our Memory has been unveiled in the town of Desnogorsk, Smolensk Region.

It is a monolithic granite cube weighing four and a half tons with a bronze loaf of black Borodinsky bread.

As a legend says, the bread was named so after it was baked for the first time in a bakery of St. Borodino Convent by Margarita, the widow of General Tuchkov. She strewed black bread with coriander seeds to symbolize the canister-shot that her husband was killed with at the historical Borodino Battle of 1812.
