"Do not judge the jury unless you are a judge" - such is the message that a new law will send to those quick to criticise the Russian judiciary, if it is passed through the Parliament.
The deputies from the ruling party suggested to find the means to restrict the criticism of judges that has recently become all too popular.
"It is okay to criticise a judge if you are a lawyer, too, and you know all the procedures and laws. However, to merely parrot whatever people want to hear is wrong", the spokesperson has said.
The idea of such measure surfaced in the aftermath of the Pussy Riot trial when many analysts were gravely upset by the trial and the verdict of Judge Marina Syrova who sentenced three young women to 2 years in prison for hooliganism and inciting religious hatred. "It has become a commonplace to accuse the judiciary of incompetence and injustice", the spokesperson commented.
