The first time the town of Belozersk had ever been mentioned was in the Russian Primary Chronicle (Povest' Vremennykh Let) under the year 862: back then it was the town of Beloozero located on the northern shore of the White Lake, in modern-day Vologda Region. The toponym "Belozersk" or "Beloozero" is fully eponymous with the Russian for "White Lake". The town celebrated its first 1050th anniversary in 1912, however recent archaeological research has knocked off a hundred years, thus making the town a 1050-year-old again.
The main celebrations are taking place on August 24 in the Trading Square where the visitors will see the opening of the Russian Hanseic Days. The day after, Saturday, August 25, the inter-regional fair "The City of Tradesmen" will open for the visitors. More events will take place at the Belozersky Val (the remains of the ancient settlement), at the Embankment, the Kremlin, the boulevard and the beach. Two more festivals are ready to welcome guests, "Beloozero" arts festival and "The Bylinas of Beloozero" inter-regional festival of military and historical reconstruction.
