Putting memorial boards on memorial buildings in Petersburg may be forbidden: Governor Georgy Poltavchenko submitted the draft law for consideration to the Legislative Assemblies of Petersburg.
The document contains a ban on setting up memorial boards in honor of outstanding persons on facades of architecture monuments, as well as buildings of institutions of science, culture and education. This offer, as is specified in the explanatory note, is expected to protect the architectural outlook of buildings representing historical value.
A deputy of the Yabloko party Maxim Reznik has already expressed his concern about the possibility of adopting the bill, which “will break the long-term tradition of setting up memorial boards in Petersburg”.
It is expected that the law draft will be considered in the first reading at a parliament session on Wednesday.
