The Moscow committee for construction and development has designated an area in the north-west of Moscow for building of a mosque and a Muslim educational centre. There were no plans to use the space in any other way, while it is a part of the communal area in Mitino district. The area stretches across 0.35 hectars and the maximum height of a building is set at 35m.
Additionally a prayer house in the Western Municipal District was lent indefinitely to the Moscow Islamic community.
The majority of local citizens, among them Russians and Jewish people, reacted positively to the news of a mosque's coming to their locale. Some even expressed opinion that building a synanogue would also be a good idea. The Muslim locals are very happy, as there is a shortage of mosques in Russia's capital considering the growth of Muslim community here. However, some were not amused: according to these citizens, Muslims always "make a crowd" during their religious holidays, occupying all free space.
