The largest collection of unique lifetime gramophone records of the great opera singer Feodor Shalyapin has been put up for sale in the USA.
It numbers more than 300 records, among them a few dozens of sample copies, the so-called “white labels”.
“It is a miracle that they have remained up to now”, - the leading American researcher of Shalyapin’s creativity Joseph Stremlin reported on Sunday.
The collection was gathered by an aficionado of the singer’s creativity Vladimir Gurvich from the USSR, who lived in New York. The widow of the collector wants the unique collection to go to Russia, Shalyapin’s motherland.
