On Tuesday, Sochi celebrated 500 days until the opening ceremony of Russia’s first Winter Games, saying the city is more than 70 percent ready to host the Games.
That day was celebrated by mass flashmobs in 17 Russian cities, when people assembled gigantic puzzles from coloured panels making 22 images of Winter Olympic sport disciplines.
Sochi 2014 bosses also unveiled the Games’ official slogan: “Hot.Cool.Yours.” In an official statement they said the slogan is a “universal solution” that “reflects Russia’s national character, the brand values of Sochi 2014 and also the progressive and innovative approach to organizing and hosting the Games.” "Hot" and "cool" are also references to subtropical Sochi's sun-and-snow climate.
The Sochi Winter Olympics will take place from February 7 through 23, 2014, and the first test events were successfully held last year. Next Russian and international sports events are expected to be held this winter, in particular, the Russian Figure Skating Cup, which opens in the middle of October.
