The lack of food due to expansive forest fires drives bears out of the woods - and to people.
On September 21, a bear was trying to penetrate a living house in Evenki Territory of Krasnoyarsk Region. The house owner braved the attack and shot the bear with a rifle.
Another incident occurred on Monday, September 24, when a hungry bear attacked a geologist camp in the same region. People tried to escape but one got trapped and attacked by the animal. He later died from injuries. Other who tried to save their colleague were also wounded. A local serviceman went to the incident scene, but by the time he arrived to the camp one of researchers found the gun and killed the bear.
Wild bears regularly attack tourists and those who live in taiga territory. Last year a she-bear attacked a female tourist in Kamchatka. Observers unanimously state that hunger caused by forest fires drives bears to leave their habitat to look for food.
