After visiting Petersburg, Perm, Kazan, and Rostov-on-Don, the Days of Europe festival is about to visit Kaluga.
The citizens and visitors to this one of the ancient Russian cities will be treated to a variety of Europe-themed events on the weekend of 12-14 October 2012. Among these - the finals of the school contests for the best translation from a European language into Russian, a public debate on the future of Russian and European relations, city walks tracing European heritage in the streets of Kaluga, film screenings, an exhibition of the French artist Muriel Rousseau-Ovtchinnikov, free tester lessons in European languages (Estonian, Bulgarian, Portuguese, Danish, etc.), and a special European menu in the city's restaurants and cafes.
To get to Kaluga from Moscow takes between 2hrs 20min and 3hrs 20min, depending on the type of the train you board. A single ticket costs around RUB 330. Kaluga is rightly considered the birthplace of Russian space science, and if you were thinking of visiting it one day, the weekend of the Days of Europe looks to be a good time.
