Sberbank of Russia may sell its Ukrainian unit Volksbank International.
“We have decided to study the market and the opportunity to sell the Volksbank’s assets on the reasonable price”, said Ihor Yushko, the chief executive officer at Sberbank’s Ukrainian subsidiary.
The offers of the potential buyers have not satisfied the bank yet. The final decision on whether to sell Volksbank or incorporate it into Sberbank’s Ukrainian subsidiary is to be made by the end of October. The option of selling is regarded due to the fact that the banks have different business models.
According to the National Bank of Ukraine by July 1, 2012 Sberbank’s Ukrainian subsidiary was rated 17th among 176 operating banks in Ukraine with $ 2.5 billion assets. Volksbank took 72d place with $ 287 million.
