Zachatyevsky Tower of Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin Restored

Restoration of the Zachatyevsky Tower of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin has been completed for the 400th anniversary of the Nizhny Novgorod people’s volunteer corps.

In the 18th century the tower was destroyed by a landslide. In 2011 Nizhni Novgorod administration took the decision to restore the tower. For the upcoming holiday the restoring works have been completed.

Now residents and visitors of Nizhny Novgorod can see all the towers of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. Thus, the historical outlook of the major sight of the city has been recovered. Let's remind that the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is included into the list of 14 wonders of Russia.

By the way, the tower is called after the Zachatyevsky Monastery that was located nearby. Sometimes the Zachatyevsky Tower is called Zhivonosnaya (after Zhivonosny spring; “zhivonosny” means “life-giving”).
