First Monument to Automobilist Unveiled in Volgograd

Volgograd has become the first city of Russia to acquire a monument to the automobilist.

This moustached man is none other than the immortal character Adam Kazemirovich Kozlevich from Ilf and Petrov’s novel Gold Calf - an inventive and resourceful man, capable of assembling a car from a sewing machine.

Such a vivid character, according to the author of the sculpture Sergey Shcherbakov, symbolizes the Russian automobile community as such. According to the initiators of this monument it is supposed to become for Volgograd not merely a sight but a kind of a symbol of drive for good roads.
