Shakira Joins Russian VKontakte Social Network

Colombian songstress and world music star Shakira has launched her personal account on one of Russia’s most popular social networks, “VKontakte”. The information about it first came from the pop-singer's official Twitter account.

      Shakira greeted her Russian fans on VKontakte with a message: “Hey guys - welcome to my new VK profile where I'll be posting all my latest news, photos, videos and updates. Stay tuned!”

      Up to 12,000 Russian fans have been following her news. Shakira is very popular in Russia, she has visited Russia a number of times, last time the concert was held in 2011 in Moscow.

      Vkontakte is one of of Russia's most-popular social networks with an audience of over 140 million accounts, 70% of them live in Russia.

      Other foreign entertainers that have accounts on VKontakte include The Prodigy, Moby, DJ Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk and Sophie Michelle Ellis-Bextor.
