Moscow Art Theater in the name of Chekhov welcomes The Royal Shakespeare Theatre. November 13 – 17, the troupe will show its “Julius Caesar” performance. The last time, when Royal Shakespeare Theatre came to Moscow was 45 years ago.
“Julius Caesar” by William Shakespeare is directed by Gregory Doran. He transported the play to the modern-day Africa. All actors are the dark-skinned famous stars of the British film and theatrical industry. There was a première at the Royal Court on May 28, 2012, when the play was included to the World Shakespeare Festival.
All the speakers, who attended a press conference organized in Moscow, were unanimous in their opinion that the themes raised in the play, such as betrayal and power, the struggle for freedom, are no less important now than in the XVI century.
