Moscow Unprepared to Heavy Snow, Suffers a Traffic Breakdown

First snow always causes some problems: drivers, businesses, and municipal government are rarely prepared to the snowfall. A degree of breakdown is inevitable, be that in business flow, or in traffic.

This year, however, Moscow suffers terribly. The snowfall that started on Wednesday, November 28, is expected to continue until December 1. On Wednesday night Yandex service for traffic jams monitoring indicated that the city was paralysed between 6 and 8pm, with traffic jams scoring 9 out of 10 on the heavyness scale.

On Thursday morning over 10 thousand cleaning machines and over 7 thousand workers came out into the streets of Moscow to clean the snow, although they likely have aggravated the situation even more. Many people were late for work today.

The Moscow Government appealed to the citizens to opt for public transport to get to work. We recommend the same, and also we recommend leaving the house at least 15 minutes earlier than you normally do, to make sure you arrive at your destination on time.

At the same time some forecasters say that icy rain may follow this snowfall, which we sincerely hope will not be the case.
