Kazan Street Names Transliterated Into English
18.12.2012 15:03

The Student Spartakiad, a major sport event that is taking place in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan in 2013, pressed the government of the City of Kazan to accelerate the process of "Englishing" the street names ahead of the event.

The local tourism committee has already reported on the progress: a special commission of lunguists and tourism experts has been tasked with elaborating the unified rules for translating the street names. For now they mostly agreed on transliteration of the street names, with certain exceptions allowed.

The final list of English equivalents to the Russian and Tatar street names is expected to be confirmed by January 2013.
