The exhibition at the Multimedia Art Museum in Moscow is one more attempt to find out who Charles Chaplin really was - the actor, film director, artistic director who made the whole world laugh.
His career develops from the first short film "Kid Auto Races at Venice" to the absolute glory and his own film studio that produced 70 feature films - the audience of the exhibition is witnessing the emergence and development of the Chaplin`s character. In the beginning it was indeed a pretty cocky and cunning adventurer who could easily rob his friends, flirt with his neighbor`s wife, Chaplin still had a long way to go before his character became a gentle and incredibly talented Tramp. Rare documentary materials (the exhibition features the photographs from the archives of film companies where Chaplin worked, fragments of his personal photo and video archives) show all the stages of the character development, the curatorial vision also embraces the biography of the real Charles Chaplin with all kinds of ups and downs: deprivation of the U.S. visa, active citizenship, political beliefs, etc.
The exhibition is divided into six main sections, each of them represents a separate story showing the real Chaplin, an actor and a man, so the viewers get a rare opportunity to understand it by themselves - how and when the screen image of Chaplin emerged, what tools he used to create a comic effect, how versatile his talent was.
