St. Petersburg authorities have accused famous American pop star Lady Gaga of allegedly promoting homosexuality to minors during her recent show in the city.
The investigation for 'homosexual propaganda' has become a result of accusations by the author of the controversial 'anti-gay' law, Vitaly Milonov, following Lady Gaga’s December 9 show in St. Petersburg.
Milonov claimed that the singer was “calling on minors to support LGBT organizations,” and also accused Gaga of “the illegal use of the Russian national flag and libel towards Russia.”
Milinov's activity has recently aroused a rising tide of discontent from Russian public figures. Russian art and culture activists, sportsmen and other celebrities have signed a joined address to Russian authorities to consider terminating Milonov’s deputy powers. The address claims that Milonov’s initiatives harm St. Petersburg’s reputation and reinforce an image of the city as “the capital of homophobia and bigotry.”
