Treasures of Ancient Storerooms to Be Displayed in Arkhangelsk First Time in 90 Years

Historical and architectural complex Gostinye Dvory presents the exhibition Treasures of Arkhangelsk Ancient Storeroom for the 175th anniversary of the Arkhangelsk Regional Museum.

The exhibition presents a collection of the Diocesan Museum (Ancient Storeroom) that once existed in Arkhangelsk. It was founded in 1886 and had the best collection of ecclesiastical antiquities in Russia in the early 20th century. The collection has been displayed for the first time in the last 90 years. The visitors can see rare church antiquities: items of church life, church utensils, icons, liturgical objects, and vestments.

In 1920, the Diocesan Museum was abolished by the Soviet authorities. After a few years a part of the collection was returned to the museum.
