The icon of St. Nicholas the Wondermaker passed to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on the bequest of Galina Vishnevskaya.
The daughters of the famous opera singer Galina Vishnevskaya passed the icon of St. Nicholas to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on the bequest of their mother; the icon had been in the cathedral before its destruction. "On December 19, the memory day of Saint Nicholas, Galina Pavlovna wanted to personally convey icon to the church, but the Lord called her to his abode. Historically the daughters brought the icon from Paris to this very day, although they intended to deliver it earlier, but something did not work. Also, by an amazing coincidence, on December 19, 1961 Anna Akhmatova wrote a poem "A woman's voice" devoted to Vishnevskaya" - the staff of the Opera Centre tells, the Centre that was once headed by the famous singer. In 1979 Mstislav Rostropovich bought the icon of St. Nicholas in one of London antique shops. It was thought that this image had previously been held in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The icon will be restored and then it will be placed in the main upper church of the cathedral.
