Edmond Rostand's most popular play is staged on the Russian scene by the outstanding compatriot of the great playwright - French director Georges Lavodan. "Cyrano" was prepared, as it is a common practice in the West, during less than two months.
"Quite a lot of the time was required to parse the text, it was necessary to find out how close we were with the actors in the understanding of the play” – Lavodan said. “The second stage was the decisive one. It was connected with the distribution of the roles. The invitation of Alexei Konovalov for the role of Cyrano was a surprise. He's incredibly far from the classic Cyrano even in his appearance. This was what added some inspiration for me. However, with the development of the role, I got the feeling that this was the only way to play Cyrano”. After such declaration the French director was not shy and predicted the success of the new performance of the Maliy Theater.
In addition to the young actor Alexei Konovalov, the performance involves: Alexandra Ivanova as Roxanne and Alexander Ermakov, Alexander Driven, Victor Bunakov and other actors.
The next "Cyrano" performances will be held on 22, 29 December 2012 and 3 January 2013.
