The operation “Fir-tree” against the illegal logging of the fir-trees starts in Moscow on the New Year`s eve and will last until December 31. The campaign takes place annually on specially protected nature sites of Moscow. Illegal logging is a crime the responsibility for which is established by the Article 260 of the Criminal Code.

This article establishes a fine for illegal tree logging from 200 thousand rubles. In addition to the liability of a fine, the person who committed this crime is presented with the damage he has to pay, the amount of which is usually tens or even hundreds of times bigger than the value of the trees which can be bought at any Christmas tree market. As for the unauthorized Christmas tree markets, they will be checked by the police.
