A large aristocratic gathering took place in St. Petersburg: 14 descendants of the Sheremetev family gathered in the northern capital in honor of the 300th anniversary of the famous familial estate - "Fountain House". After the revolution it hosted the Period-House Museum and later - the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute.
After many years the palace came to the emergency state, its restoration began 20 years ago. The Lazarevskaya tomb of Alexander Nevsky Lavra is one of the few memorials of St. Petersburg that have not undergone significant changes in the post-revolutionary period. Memorial services in Lazarevskaya tomb are not often headed by the governor of the Lavra, because it is formally the Museum of Urban Sculpture. But this time is special. About 15 descendants of the famous Sheremetev family arrived from Moscow, America, Australia and Morocco to meet and honor their ancestors. The afternoon was spent by the Sheremetevs in the old family house on the Fontanka.
The oldest city manor that celebrated its 300th anniversary last year met the guests with the exposition compiled with the participation of ten Russian museums, archives and libraries of the two capitals: it presented the portraits and personal possessions of prominent military leaders, government officials and patrons.
