"Kandinsky Award" was held in Moscow. This is one of the largest independent awards in the field of contemporary art in Russia. In addition to the special prize, the winners will have the opportunity to participate in exhibitions. The jury selected the winner from nearly two hundred applications, as a result in the final there was left only a tenth of all works. The judges gather in a secret chamber exactly one hour before the actual award and begin the discussion. Those are the rules of the "Kandinsky Award".

In 2012, the "Kandinsky Award" took place in the hall of the cinema "Udarnik". According to the plan of Breus, "Udarnik" is slowly but surely evolving into a center of modern art. The complicated video installation that shows how the roof of the cinema can open raptures the audience. The legend of the social art Alexander Melamid awarded Dmitry Venkov with his prize. The victory in the category "Best Young Artist. The Project of the Year" was brought to him by the video work "Mad imitators". The award in the category "The Project of the Year" was unexpectedly divided between the group AES + F and Grigory Bruskin. The jury could not decide which was best - "Sacred allegory" or "H-hour".
