In a letter published by the state-run Channel One, the French actor praised Russia’s culture and way of thinking. He also called Russia a country of a great democracy.

Earlier, Depardieu renounced his French citizenship over the “insulting” accusations of tax evasion he faced after announcing plans to move to Belgium. 

Belgium has now announced it will be more difficult for Depardieu to obtain its passport.
