In the Roman apartment where Nikolai Gogol lived in the years 1838-1842 and wrote "Dead Souls", "The Overcoat", the novel "Rome", the latest edition of "Taras Bulba" the salon-lounge of his name will soon be open. The documents of the acquisition of the apartment in the house marked by a memorial plaque on the 125 Sistina street have been signed The bill of sale with the current owners of the building was concluded by the Directorate of International Association "N.V. Gogol Award in Italy” in order to open the Roman branch of the educational organization, to create a cultural center which will bear the name of the writer.
Gogol's cultural and historical salon-lounge will be open in the apartment after the repair and restoration works. The state rooms of the apartment will be decorated by the portraits of Alexander Pushkin, Nikolai Gogol and princess Zinaida Volkonskaya. The salon-lounge will hold poetry readings, musical and literary events, art exhibitions with the participation of artists from different countries. The grand opening of the new center is planned for March 2013.
