Ilya Ponomarev, Dmitry Gudkov and Valery Zubov sponsored the draft law based on the petition that gathered more than 100,000 signatures.

The call for the revision of the recent ban was made by independent Novaya Gazeta newspaper.

However, on Monday Vladimir Pligin, from the Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building of the Russian parliament, said there is currently no procedure in place that would make public initiatives eligible for review by the MPs.

Earlier, on May 7, 2012 the Russian president urged legislators to consider public initiatives that gather more than 100,000 signatures.
