Russia’s Investigative Committee announced it has spent a billion roubles on cutting-edge equipment during the two years of its operation.

The powerful law enforcement agency, sometimes described as the ‘Russian FBI’, has used budget funds on armoured vehicles, drones, mobile labs and other high-tech facilities.

It says it needs the up-to-date technologies to be able to combat modern crime groups which have been employing increasingly sophisticated methods.

The Investigative Committee claims it has cut its outgoings due to shift from centralized to regional procurement, which helps to better serve the needs of individual departments.
